Your hosts at Blue Ridge Estate, owners Brian and Lesley Avery, moved to Marlborough in 2001. Their home was specifically designed and built as homestay accommodation, and won the 2002 Marlborough Master Builders' House of the Year award.

Brian and Lesley planted 5.5ha (14 acres) of their property in Sauvignon Blanc grapes and another 0.5ha (1 acre) in Pinot Noir - 12,000 plants in total. They do most of the work on the vineyard themselves, except for intensive jobs such as spraying and winter pruning.

The move to Blenheim was a major lifestyle change. Brian had spent the previous 40 years in the travel industry in New Zealand and Australia, and consequently has a wealth of knowledge of New Zealand's inbound tourism industry. He is more than happy to help with any itinerary planning for guests.

Lesley has a passion for quilting and patchwork, and enjoys all aspects of handwork. The flower and vegetable gardens at Blue Ridge Estate take up much of her time - work she finds very therapeutic.

Brian and Lesley have travelled extensively and enjoy the company of the international visitors and fellow Kiwis who come to enjoy their home and garden. Their knowledge of New Zealand and the world means guests immediately have something in common.
